Understanding Climate Change – A Workshop for 5th – 12th Grade Teachers @ Hilton Garden Inn Buffalo Airport

Learn what the scientific community has found out about one of the largest challenges facing society today.  You will come away with engaging, hands-on activities that teach your students about our changing climate and strategies for addressing the challenge. All curricula are correlated to New York’s Learning Standards.  Reserve your seat now and join us at our upcoming Understanding Climate Change Workshop.

The National Energy Education Development Project (NEED) and National Fuel are pleased to provide this free workshop for 5th-12th grade teachers. This workshop is provided through funding from National Fuel.

Just for attending this session, you will receive a class set of home energy efficiency kits,  provided through funding from the National Fuel Conservation Incentive Program, that give students a chance to work with their families to save energy and combat climate change.

Understanding Climate Change Workshop Topics:
•       CARBON CYCLE: Simulation activities that show how carbon cycles through earth’s reservoirs and how this cycle has changed through time.
•       GREENHOUSE EFFECT LAB: Demonstrate the greenhouse effect on your table top using a teacher-tested procedure.
•       CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE: How our atmosphere works and how greenhouse gas emissions are affecting it.
•       ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE: Students engage in problem-solving activities that examine ways to reduce our contribution to climate change.
•       SAVING ENERGY AT HOME: Your students will be provided with materials to help them study energy use at home, reduce their carbon footprint, and lower energy bills.

Wegmans Family Day – Kids Day at Botanical Garden @ Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens

Free admission for Garden Members and kids up to 12. Visit the Wegmans Family Garden and hands-on stations to participate in fun seasonal activities and meet some of the plants that live at the Botanical Gardens!  Activity stations will be located throughout the Botanical Gardens. While activities are best aligned for children ages 5-12, caregivers of our youngest learners are encouraged to assist with creations! Included with paid admission/membership! Providing a safe learning environment for children is important. All activities are peanut-allergy friendly. Sponsored by Wegmans.

March Mini-Conference!  This year we are partnering with NYS Master Teacher to create an even bigger event!  We are welcoming science teachers from all over WNY to deep their understanding of STEM topics and learn what the organizations in the area have to offer. This event is historically well attended, and the exhibitors are always a huge hit with the teachers in attendance! 
 
The Mini-Conference & Exhibit will be held at Buffalo State College in the Math & Sciences Building on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 3:30pm-7:00pm.
 
Registration for organizations and vendors to join us is now open! We will be taking registrations until Feb. 10, 2019.  We want time to promote all the vendors and presenters who will be joining us.
