TechWise for Women @ Buffalo State College

WNY STEM Hub, in collaboration with The Girls Scouts of WNYBuffalo State College, and a group of women Tech Professionalsinvite you to join us for TechWise for Women.

TechWise for Women is a coding boot camp that meets one Saturday a month from September to May. The program is designed to teach coding, entrepreneurship, leadership and give information about Tech career opportunities to female students and their female relatives. Our Tech professionals will serve as mentors, who will guide and encourage participants as they learn to code webpages, apps and games. Participants will also receive direct support from The Girls Scouts of WNY to earn their STEM badge.

Those who have never coded before, as well as those who have had experience coding, are invited to attend and help us build a supportive learning community that encourages exploration, empowerment and innovation.

Are you a Professional Woman who would like to help mentor a student? It will just take a few hours, once a month! You will be helping to build a community of tech women that will have an impact for generations. To be a TechWise for Women Volunteer please register HERE.

Mission Possible Food Drive Challenge – Buffalo City Mission @ Buffalo City Mission

Challenge runs from October 1 – December 13, 2019

The Buffalo City Mission has developed a youth developed incentive program called Mission Possible. This challenge has been designed to grow the philanthropic heart of students in WNY by challenging them to engage in life-lessons regarding the relationship between giving back to their communities and building positive character attributes.

Throughout the 2019 Mission Possible Program, we will be incorporating the STEM (STEAM/STREAM) School initiative that will provide a learning tool to implement a collaborative and project-based platform where students of all ages can work closely together in a hands-on way to solve real-world problems, such as alleviating hunger. Students are challenged to use art/design, mathematics, and problem-solving skills to reach their goals throughout the Mission Possible Challenge Period. The integration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics practices used in conjunction with digital literacy will help students recognize and utilize the variety of perspectives that may be tapped into to help unravel complex inquiries.

Celebrate all things creepy and crawly! Learn about spooky plants while making some creepy crafts to take home. Enjoy Halloween treats, a visit from the Ice Queen and Ice Princess, and feel free to show off your costume. Have fun at activity stations throughout the Botanical Gardens.  Activities are best aligned for children ages 4-12, so we encourage caregivers of our young learners to assist with creations.

Celebrate National STEM Day with colleagues across the region and roll up your sleeves for hands-on activities you can use to spark your students’ interest in high-demand STEM careers.
