Combined efforts from WNY STEM Hub and St. Bonaventure University are producing 3D printed shields. Dr. Xiao-Ning Zhang, Professor of Biology & Director of Biochemistry Program at St. Bonaventure started this initiative as community members and volunteers.
The WNY STEM Hub Satellite Center at St. Bonaventure University is working with its resources to manufacture reusable face shields that protect eyes, nose, and mouth at once. These face shields are 3D printed and an alternative to cloth masks and goggles. To reuse, spray the face shield with rubbing alcohol to sanitize after use. Help protect your community.
As of the beginning of May, the SBU STEM Hub team, Shield Warriors, have made and donated over 700 face shields to medical facilities, nursing homes, grocery stores, and other service organizations:
- Medical facilities: Bradford Hospital, Bertrand Chaffee Hospital (Springville), Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center in Olean, Dr. Daugherty’s Dental Office in Olean, VNAs in Catt & Allegany Counties, Kaleida.
- Nursing Homes: Sena Keane (PA), Bradford Ecumenical Home (PA), Chapel Rige (PA), Smethport (PA), Jennie B (Springville).
- Grocery Stores: Park n’ Shop, Reid Food Barn, Walmart.
- Other services: Olean Social Services, Intandem, Valley Tire Pros, Dunn Tire, McKean County Emergency Services, Eldred Township Fire Department, YMCA@Franklin, PA (to use when they reopen).
