There is an African proverb that says: If you give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day. But if you teach a man to fish, you will feed him for a lifetime. The enduring vitality of this adage demonstrates how aptly it captures and communicates a truth about human nature and generosity. In the coming months, WNY STEM Hub will do just that very thing with WNY STEM Hub West Africa Hand in Hand Program—but we will need your help to do it!

WNY STEM Hub’s program, Hand in Hand, teaches local middle and high school students to use technology and computer design to create prosthetic hands for children who need them. As Hand in Hand enters its third year, we need your help to continue and expand this good work.

For the first time, WNY STEM Hub will partner with the West Africa STEM Hub (WA STEM Hub) in Accra, Ghana. We were invited by, Prince Oduro, a community stakeholder, to work with local Ghanese as they build one of West Africa’s largest STEM learning ecosystems.

Because the goal of the partnership is to create a self-sustaining STEM eco-system that serves Ghana‘s communities, we chose to begin by partnering with WNY STEM Hub on Hand in Hand.

WNY STEM Hub’s Hand in Hand students will produce prosthetic hands for a number of children in Ghana. Members of WNY STEM Hub will then travel to Accra, Ghana, as ambassadors, to deliver the prosthetics and help to create the learning center. In the learning center, local Ghanese students will learn to use technology to create prosthetics using 3D printers and to make a difference in their world.

In order to accomplish this meaningful work, WNY STEM Hub needs your help! We need your help to purchase the 3-D printers and computers that will be used in the new learning center. Also, we will need assistance to purchase airfare and accommodations for our teachers and ambassadors.

Any and all donations will make a difference and are extremely appreciated. To donate to WNY STEM Hub West Africa Hand in Hand Program, please visit:
